Building upon a legacy of collaboration and progress, we invite submissions for abstracts to the 6th Global Meeting of the World Health Organization’s Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) Initiative, scheduled for November 5-7, 2024, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Previous EMT Global Meetings have served as crucial platforms for fostering collaboration and guiding the direction of the initiative. From Geneva to Bangkok, these gatherings have facilitated dialogue among clinicians, non-clinical providers, Member States, and partners, catalyzing momentum towards the development of a global network.
At the 2022 Global Meeting in Yerevan, over 500 participants from 110 countries and organizations convened to define the EMT 2030 strategy, aimed at strengthening national and international rapid response capacities. One core objective of this strategy is to Strengthen information systems, evidence, and research within the EMT community.
In line with this objective, the 2022 meeting saw the introduction of a research program, marking a significant milestone in advancing the evidence base for EMT preparedness and response. Abstract submissions showcased a diverse range of accomplishments, from documenting team development processes to modeling the impact of effective responses and enhancing regional knowledge sharing.
As we look towards the 6th Global Meeting in Abu Dhabi, we invite abstract submissions across 6 thematic areas (see below). Join us in Abu Dhabi as we continue to strengthen the evidence base for the EMT initiative, furthering our mission to improve care for populations affected by emergencies. Together, let us build upon past achievements and forge new pathways towards resilient and effective emergency medical responses.

Explore innovative approaches to streamline EMT development and deployment and harmonize international guidelines for emergency response.
Establishing universally recognized benchmarks for EMT development and deployment, ensuring consistency and quality across diverse contexts; Adapting and adopting existing EMT standards to local and national contexts.
Enhance development of EMTs and EMT preparedness through tailored training programs and skill development initiatives, fostering a cadre of competent responders.
Implement agile strategies for rapid mobilization and effective coordination of EMTs in crisis situations, maximizing life-saving interventions.
Share knowledge and experiences of implementing robust systems for real-time data collection and analysis to assess EMT performance and inform continuous improvement efforts.
Foster seamless collaboration between EMTs and complementary rapid response capacities such as public health rapid response teams, mobile labs, and others, optimizing collective response capabilities.
Submitted abstracts will be considered for oral presentation in the Research & Innovation Track or for poster presentation as part of the Exhibition Hall.
The World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) will be supporting abstract management for this Global Meeting. Accepted abstracts will be published as a special online supplement to WADEM’s academic journal, Prehospital and Disaster Medicine on Cambridge Core.
